Designer Top Picks: Reclining Sofas and Chairs

So if you read last week’s blog post, you know that I am not a huge fan of most reclining sofas and chairs. I totally get that they are comfortable and for some people that’s all that matters, but personally I’m not a fan of the aesthetic. My husband had a huge black, UGLY recliner when we first got married that he was so proud of - it was one of his first furniture purchases. It was comfy - but there were no tears shed (by me) when our dog broke the frame using it as a launch pad.

It kinda looked like this except black - and pleather, so it started peeling pretty quickly too.

Top Reclining Chairs

This one combines traditional style with modern/clean lines - but it still looks like it could just be a regular armchair. It’s also motorized, which I know is a huge plus for a lot of people. I am also obsessed with this cognac color - its warm without being too dark and a great way to add some texture to a room.

I love the exposed frame on this one - and that it comes in a variety of upholstery options! Its definitely a more modern aesthetic, so if that doesn’t fit your vibe, I totally understand!

This is a pretty traditional/overstuffed armchair (and is probably my husband’s favorite) but I love that it also just looks like a comfortable chair that you can curl up in. I also could see this being an amazing option for a theater room, especially in this dark leather option. (It does have other upholstery choices).

Top Reclining Sofas & Sectionals

Who says that pretty reclining sectionals aren’t a thing? It’s motorized and also comes in a smaller configuration, a regular sofa AND an armchair (that almost made my top chair list). Side note: Please don’t buy a whole matching set of this… I’m only telling you they exist in case you really don’t need a sectional but love this style (I could go on but this is probably a whole other blog post). I love the boucle fabric on it - but this is my only complaint as well. Currently it’s only available in this upholstery choice.

Okay, so technically this one is a sectional too, but I couldn’t pass up the extra storage this one provides in addition to reclining. As a mom to two little kids, I know that storage is always a bonus and this is perfect for extra blankets, pillows, or even a place to stash those baby/toddler toys that never seem to have a good spot to live. You can also grab this in other configurations, including just as a sofa (but then you lose the storage).

This is a little bit of a different style, but I love that its a little more unexpected/modern than some other options. This is an option that I think would be great for a theater room, or a teen hangout - it’s definitely a more casual option but still has really pretty lines.

So, as you can see there ARE options for reclining furniture that still looks great and helps create the aesthetic you’re going for - it just takes some time (and knowledge) about where to look!
