One Room Challenge Spring 2022 Week 8 - The Final Reveal

The final reveal is here! To check out everyone else’s final projects, take a look at the ORC blog here!

I am so pleased with the progress this space made, even if I feel like it isn’t quite complete yet (the perfectionist in me). The main aspects that I still need to work on are painting the walls of the stairwell (I need ladder/scaffolding and I’m afraid of heights), painting the banister, and still working on the floor. I really thought that the floor would take me a day or two to finish - but here I am a week later still scrubbing grout and dirt spots out of the tile. It does look significantly better than where I started, but I’m not in love with it yet.

To remind you - this is where we started with the laundry room space:

This is where we are now:

My favorite functional change is the additional lighting - it just really brightens up the space and keeps it from feeling so cave like. I’m loving most of the aesthetic changes and the contrast between the white walls and dark cabinetry really helps make the space pop. It’s amazing how adding contrast can just elevate a space and make it feel larger (compared to using all light colors). My husband’s favorite functional change was swapping the door swing on the dryer:

My only regret is that I didn’t get everything done that I wanted (mainly the stairwell walls and banister) but reminding myself that those weren’t actually in the initial scope, but something I realized I needed to add in after cleaning up the actual stairs. I’m very pleased with the overall transformation and feel this is a much better entry to our home than the original dump spot. It’s also motivating me to attack the other two rooms in the basement - the office space and guest bedroom. (Maybe the next ORC?)
